6 Parenting lessons for New Parents
Being a parent is not an easy job. It comes with tons of responsibilities and a bag of mixed emotions. While becoming a parent is one of the blessings of life, it is no cakewalk at all! Just like children, even parents need some guidance on how to do it correctly After-all thy are shaping a child and nothing should practically go wrong!
So here are some parenting lessons for the new parents to remember as they spend their years shaping their kid.
- Listen first: It is easier to boss around your kids but that would not help you develop their emotional quotient. One of the mistakes that new parents do is not making their kids heard. Children do things for attention & the moment they know that they are not being heard in the house – things can take worse turns. So always be a good listener.
- Don’t insult them: You may drop a few comments here and their Infront of their friends about them and that may not be taken as lightly as you intended. These minor insults than appear harmless to you can turn out to be their insecurities in adulthood. So never embarrass or insult them in front of anyone.
- Set an example: Do not tell – show them. You may keep screaming till eternity asking them to do something and they won’t but, if you start doing the same, they will follow. For instance, the best way to inculcate the habit of reading in your kids is to sit and read your own book for an hour.
- Teach them to respect boundaries: While the world is struggling against the anti-feminists’ angles of the society, it is important to teach your children the meaning of personal boundaries at an early age. Teach them that they are supposed to stop when they are asked NOT to do it.
- Express: Teaching your children the correct way to express their emotions instead of suppressing them is important. Do not shun their anger or emotional outburst. Let them process the situation and then direct them towards a healthy outlet. You do not want to grow your kid into an emotionally challenged adult after all. Whether it is love or hatred – teach them to have a healthy way of expression.
- Support art: Not everyone is an artist and if your kid is then please nurture the talent. Talk to them about how they want to take it ahead and encourage them to pursue it. We do not want them to say 20 years from now that they were artists when they were kids but never nurtured that art.
